The Chaparral provides mobile shortrange air defense to defeat lowaltitude aircraft. The system is designed to be mobile, selfcontained and air transportable. A mobile light air defense system with a turret mounted on a tracked vehicle carrying four readytofire missiles, the Chaparral is a ground launched version of the airtoair Sidewinder. Chaparral consists of an infrared heat seeking missile, a launcher with a Forward Looking Infrared FLIR sight, and a tracked vehicle.
